In the middle of November we took a weekend trip down to Richmond, Virginia to visit Kellen's cousin Jordan and his wife Julie. Jordan took us around to see the historical sights. We visited a really neat museum in Jamestown, where there were replications of a Powhatan indian village (the tribe of Pocahontas), the Jamestown settlement, and the three ships the first settlers came over on. The ships were surprisingly small.
We then went to the actual sight of the Jamestown settlement. There is an old church there built on some of the original foundation. They are doing excavation work there.
We ended our historical journey by touring Yorktown, Virginia. Yorktown was the site of the siege and subsequent surrender of General Cornwallis to General George Washington, effectively ending the American Revolutionary War. We drove through the battlefield and saw the progression of the troops.
It was a quick trip but we had a really good time. Thanks to Jordan & Julie for playing hosts and tour guide to us.
